Help every veteran navigate the VA claims process
We build technology to help veterans organize their evidence and understand how the VA will read their claim — and we do it in the open, priced to stay within reach of everyone who served.
Help veterans navigate the claims process
The VA disability claims process is hard to navigate alone. The VA needs three things to grant a service-connected claim — a current diagnosis, something that happened during service, and a medical link between the two — but the evidence that proves it is scattered across years of records.
Our mission is to build technology that does the heavy lifting: reading a veteran's documents, pulling out every condition they could claim, and showing plainly what's strong, what's weak, and what's missing — so veterans walk in prepared.
Why I built this
I'm a combat veteran with fifteen-plus years building software. I built VA Claim Path so other veterans don't have to spend months learning to navigate the VA like a lawyer just to get the support they earned. You should get there faster — with less guesswork, less paperwork, and less money out of pocket.
Open by default
The code behind VA Claim Path is on GitHub. Anyone can read it, run it, audit it, fork it. github.com/sobryan/va-claim-path-app.
Whether you're a software developer, an accredited VSO, or the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs itself, you can inspect how every extraction, estimate, and recommendation is produced. We want everyone to know how this is done — Uncle Sam included. Transparency isn't a feature we added; it's the foundation we're building on.
Reach every veteran
We have two goals, and we hold both. The first is to run this tool for every veteran at the moment of separation, so no one begins their claim alone or unaware of what they are entitled to.
The second is to reach back to the veterans who were already separated — many of them years or decades ago — who have no idea that support like this exists. Help should not depend on knowing where to look.
Pricing built for accessibility
Our pricing reflects the mission. It is oriented to make the tool as accessible as possible: a free tier that is genuinely useful for organizing and sharing evidence, and a low-cost paid tier for AI analysis.
Cost should never be the reason a veteran cannot organize their claim or understand their rating. We will keep pricing pointed at accessibility, not margin.
Where the money goes
This isn't a venture-backed product. After the bills to run the tool — hosting, storage, and research for enhancements — the majority of what we earn from Pro subscriptions is donated. Some goes to other tools and organizations that help veterans. Some goes to early childhood development organizations, because the best long-term investment any country can make in its people starts long before adulthood. What's left over supports my family.
I'm not building this to get rich — I'm building it because it should exist. I have a day job.
Secure and HIPAA-compliant
Veterans' medical records demand serious protection. All of our infrastructure is HIPAA-compliant and hosted on Google Cloud Platform, with encryption in transit and at rest, and access limited to the minimum needed to operate the service.
Being open about our code does not mean being loose with veterans' data — the two go hand in hand. Openness is how you can confirm that the protections we describe are the protections we built.
